Lawrie Stepping Up To Plate

Brett Lawrie continues to gain recognition as one of baseball’s top prospects as he is ranked 40th in Baseball America’s annual Top 100 Prospects List.

Last year, Lawrie was on the list at #59 which also included fellow Canadians Mike Saunders (Victoria, BC) at #30 and Phillippe Aumont (Gatineau, QC) at #93.

Lawrie made headlines at the MLB Winter Meeting in December when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays from the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Shaun Marcum.

In 2010 at Double-A Huntsville, Lawrie tore-up Sothern League pitching as a 20 year-old by hitting .285 with eight homeruns and 63 RBI’s to go along with 30 stolen basis.

He also made his second straight appearance in the XM Future’s game during the MLB All- Star Game festivities.

Lawrie is currently attending his first big-league Spring Training with the Blue Jays and is moving across the diamond to third base from second where he spent the first two years of his pro career.

No stranger to international baseball, Lawrie has represented Canada many times including the 2008 Olympics, 2009 World Baseball Classic and 2009 IBAF World Cup.
