The Langley Thunder of the BC Junior A lacrosse League clinched fourth place in the standings as they surprised the league leading Coquitlam Adanacs 11-9 at the Langley Event Centre on Thursday night as the final week of the regular season is coming to a close.
The Adanacs are only a point up on the second place New Westminster Salmonbellies and 2 up on the Delta Islanders in the tight race for first place in 2012 between the teams as they head into the final weekend of the year before the post season starts.
The game was tight as the teams were tied (3-3) after the opening frame with goals from Vanden Hooven, Stone and Lundstrom.
The Adanacs goals came from Shafer, Reinholdt and Dinsdale.
The second saw the Thunder come out focused and managing to outscore Coquitlam by 5-2 but it was the Adanacs who took the lead on Dinsdale’s first of two goal giving them a 4-3 lead.
The Thunder’s Stone tied the game at four (4) and Dinsdale with his second of the match that allowed them to restore the lead for the visitors 5-4.
Langley scored four straight goals to take a 9-5 lead in the game as Nick Stone with his second of the game tied the it at 5-5.
This was followed by goals from Brandon Bull (a pair) and Nick Stone completed his hat trick as the Thunder took a four goal lead into the final period.
The Adanacs attempted a comeback that fell short as it was the Ben McIntosh show scoring four goals for the visitors.
The Thunder held off Coquitlam with goals from Colton Dow with a pair and a single from Eric Ransom to complete the victory on this night as the they clinched fourth place in the standings with the victory.
Shots in the game were 39-37 for the Adanacs.
Thunder “keeper” Bayliss made 30 saves for the win while Camazzola finished with 28.
