Kyle Goundrey Named Islanders Bench Boss
While most are playing hockey this time of the year some are starting to think about the upcoming lacrosse season, which is just around the corner.
Given the fact that the Vancouver Stealth are set to “kick-off” their first home game of the season this Saturday )January 7th) at the Langley Events Centre one Islander in the line-up with be Logan Schuss.
Returning for another season, he has much to offer when it comes to productivity and stronger offense for the squad and that’s his style or type of game he plays.
Physical, tough, aggressive but do what it takes to win and losing just won’t cut it for him or any team he is connected with, which goes from minor to pro.
He was an intricate part as an assistant coach for the Delta Islanders run ever to the Minto Cup last fall, not to mention the impressive run the Islanders had defeating the Coquitlam Adanacs in the best of three to capture the Provincial Junior A Title.
It was no secret that Greg Rennie was stepping aside and that the Islanders were on the hunt for a new bench boss and with the BC Junior A Lacrosse draft taking place this Saturday, the timing seemed right for the Islanders to hire Kyle to fill the role.
Greg will be staying on with the Delta Islanders as GM along with former Co-Head Coach of the Delta Islanders Intermediate A Team, Ross Frehlick, who has been named Assistant General Manager for the Delta Islanders Lacrosse Club.
The Delta Islanders Lacrosse Club are excited to introduce Kyle Goundrey as the Head Coach for the Junior A Lacrosse Team for the coming season.
Kyle has spent the past three years as Co-Head Coach with the Delta Islanders Intermediate A Team.
He also has previous coaching experience with the Coquitlam Adanacs and the Maple Ridge Burrards of the WLA and was also chosen to coach the 2016 Canada West World Junior Team.
He is no stranger to the BC Junior A League where he amassed 260 goals and 330 assists for 590 points playing for the Richmond Outlaws and the Surrey Stickmen.
He also played for the Peterborough Lakers of the Ontario Lacrosse Association and went on to play senior lacrosse for the WLA Maple Ridge Burrards, the Calgary Roughnecks, Edmonton Rush, Vancouver Ravens and the Baltimore Thunder of the NLL.
Kyle will have a strong group of Assistants working with him who are board Peter McFetridge, Logan Schuss and Randy Daly.
All three have NLL & WLA experience, with both Peter McFetridge and Delta’s own Logan Schuss current members of the NLL Vancouver Stealth.
These four coaches will bring with them a high level of experience and knowledge that will be an asset to a young Delta Islander team moving forward.
The Delta Islanders Lacrosse Club would like to thank Greg Rennie and his coaching staff for their contributions to the franchise over the last three seasons.
Under Greg, the Delta Islanders won their first Provincial Jr. A Playoff Championship and had their first Minto Cup Appearance.
This is going to be an exciting season for the Delta Islanders Junior A Lacrosse club.
