The Kodiaks got a solid performance from Jordan Liem who made 44 saves in the 5-1 win in game 7 of the PJHL league final defeating the defending champions the Richmond Sockeyes.
Spencer McHaffie had a four point night (2 goals and 2 assists) to lead the Kodiaks as they captured the Pacific Junior Hockey League championship.
The Kodiaks came back from a three game deficit and managed to take the last three games to win the league title.
The Kodiaks now travel to Nelson, which plays host for the 2014 Cyclone Taylor Cup.
Kodiaks leading scorer Spencer McHaffie continued his streak scoring at 4:47 after taking a pass from Johnathon Philley give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
McHaffie got his second of the night beating Sockeye’s “tender” Kootenay Alder with 5:22 left in the first extending the lead to 2-0.
Shots and after the first period were 14-13 for Richmond.
The second saw the Kodiaks score early as Jeremy Lagler extended the lead to 3-0 beating Alder at 3:41, only to add another from Johnathon Philley less that three minutes later.
Spencer McHaffie found the back of the twine again as the Kodiaks opened up a 4-0 lead on the Sockeyes, to the surprise of the sold out crowd.
Richmond finally got one back as Daniel Oakley beat Jordan Liem for the only goal of the night for the Sockeyes in a losing contest for the Sockeye’s at 9:43 from Wesley and Plotnikoff.
The Kodiaks responded back and Steven Ryan was set up from Kenny Prato And Robert Jang taking a 5-1 lead.
The final period shots were 19-8 for the Sockeyes and through 40 minutes 33-21 for Richmond
Richmond goalie Kootenay Alder was pulled at 10:26 of the second in favour of back-up Kurt Russell to finish off the night and the season.
The Kodiaks used some up and coming prospects who fit in extremely well.
One such call-up was Ryan Vorster as well as Cameron Davit, both are Major Midget prospects
The Kodiaks now travel to Nelson for the Cyclone Taylor Cup in hopes of grabbing the Provincial Junior B Championship trophy.
They are the only club that are representing the PJHL, while the other teams are the Victoria Cougars (VIJHL) and the final entry will be either BeaverValley or Kamloops Storm (KIJHL).
