Jamie Benn Signs With Hamburg
The Hamburg Freezers have responded to the NHL lockout and have secured the services of Victoria’s Jamie Benn. He will hold a press conference with the club in Hamburg to let everyone know of his intentions.
Jamie has played 222 games for the Stars with 70 goals and 90 assists and reached 160 points last season.
“We are pleased that we were able to oblige with Jamie Benn an absolute top players from the NHL,” enthused sports director Stéphane Richer. “He has all the offensive skills, is very dangerous, technically and physically strong. He is also the age of 23 still young and evolving.
Jamie is looking forward to his job in Hamburg and is glad that the game break is now over for him. If the license is normal, we can use it directly on Friday at home against Mannheim. “
During his time with the WHL Kelowna Rockets club with which he was able to win the championship in 2009, the 188 cm tall and 91 kg heavy links Sagittarius was drafted in 2007 round 5 at position 129 of the Dallas Stars.
In the 2009/2010 season Benn made his debut in the NHL and became part of a permanent fixture on the Stars.
Last season he grabbed 63 points in 71 games making him the second best scorer on the Stars and played in his first All-Star Game.
Jamie Benn will wear 24 will sign a contract until the end of the current DEL season; all subject to the NHL lockout. Jamie will dress Friday against Mannheim.
Benn is a restricted free agent who could sign a long-term contract with the Stars for upwards of $6 million a season when the NHL returns from the lockout, so the guess is he will have to buy some insurance.
Expectations are that he has an out in this contract to return to the NHL and the Stars as soon as the lockout is over.
