To the surprise of some the Delta Islanders will be hosting game two of this year’s BCJALL first round of the playoffs taking on the New West Salmonbellies.
Delta finished the regular season with a 1-7 record finishing 7th overall but get a chance to redeem themselves in hopes of advancing to the second round.
\The Islanders ended their recent season with four straight losses; with the last being a hard fought 11-7 drubbing against the Adanac’s July 31st at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
The game was well attended and saw each team have several exceptional changes with the Adanacs jumping out to a 5-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Coquitlam’s Ryan McBeth collected a pair in the first five minutes when Islanders Ty Ewen pulled them within one making it a 2-1 contest with nine and half minutes remaining in the first.
This was however short lived as the Adanac’s struck back with three straight goals before the end of the period.
David Charney, Brian Simmons and Jack Charboneau extended the Adanac’s lead to 5-1 but Delta came out with a strong second.
Delta came back with a strong second scoring three straight with Jake Cantlon, Mark Yingling and Calum Munro pulling them within one.
Coquitlam’s Reno Schenato restored their two goal lead (6-4) with five minutes left in the second, but Delta got one back to pull within one with under three minutes left in the second.
Delta’s Tyler Ewen scored his second of the night making it a 6-5 contest after 40 minutes with the Islanders focused on rebounding for the final 20 minutes.
Coquitlam jumped out to a 8-5 lead by the 12 minute mark of the third with David Charney getting his second of the game while Adam Noakes and Dylan Robinson added to the visitors lead scoring 26 seconds apart with under four minutes left taking a 10-6 lead.
The Islanders made things interesting, scoring twice, getting goals from Ryan Porteous and Ben McDonald making it a 10-7 game.
Coquitlam’s Ben Munro added one more with 65 seconds left to make the final score 11-7 with the Islanders dropping the final game of the 2021 regular season.

The Lower Mainland series has all remaining six teams play off with the Burnaby Lakers playing Coquitlam Adanacs with each team finishing with 12 points on the season.
