Innocent – Nothing Proven In Court

A Vancouver hockey mom says her seven-year-old son’s team manager assaulted her outside a dressing room and has filed a lawsuit seeking damages.

Donna Yee is a medical doctor living in Vancouver, says that while her son’s team was getting ready for the game in the dressing room, team manager Christopher Bonkowski aggressively approached and confronted her.

In a notice of civil claim filed in B.C. Supreme Court, Yee says Bonkowski got in her face by standing about one to two inches from her and yelled at, intimidated and threatened her.

She claims that her 7 year old son’s coach yelled, threatened, and slammed the dressing room door against her on June 1st – Wonder why??

hockey dadShe says he slammed a door against her body, pushed her with the door and prevented her from entering the dressing room that her son was in.

The incident occurred in view of and within earshot of others, including her son, she says.

It is alleged that the incident involving the 2006 BC Bears hockey team happened on June 1 at the Langley Sportsplex on 91A Avenue in Langley.

Yee says she suffered nervous shock, humiliation, distress, anxiety, fatigue and loss of dignity.

“The plaintiff has suffered ongoing physical and mental injuries, including injury to her feelings, dignity, pride and self-respect in all aspects of her personal and vocational pursuits,” says the lawsuit.

She is seeking unspecified general, aggravated and punitive damages for the incident as she states.

“The assault and battery upon the plaintiff was unprovoked and premeditated,” says the suit. “The actions of the defendant were intended to cause the plaintiff injury.

The conduct of the defendant was callous, disgraceful, outrageous, extreme, malicious, offensive and reprehensible and represented a marked departure from ordinary standards of reasonable behaviour, having regard to the standards of decent conduct in the community.”

No response has been filed to the lawsuit. Bonkowski, who is identified in the suit as a salesman and construction worker who lives in Richmond, could not be reached for comment.

Any civil claim contains allegations that have not been proven in court.

Unfortunately, there are always going to be times when filing a lawsuit is the only way to make sure that justice is done.

If you are considering filing a lawsuit, there is a chance that you could be getting involved with a time-consuming and expensive process.

That being said, there are solutions out there that can help you to receive financial support to get a lawsuit off the ground.

It should be noted that both have son’s playing on the team and while this is not proven, might this be a situation where a parent wants more ice time for her Son?
