Hyacks Dominate West Van

The hometown Hyacks came out with chrome, but they also brought a lot of polish to the turf at Mercer Stadium in a lopsided victory over the West Vancouver Highlanders this past Friday night.

The game was played in front of a packed house of 2300 fans taking in the 10th home coming game under Coach Farhan Lalji with support shown from the Students, Staff and Teachers which is a tribute to the school spirit for sport they play.

From the opening festivities the Hyacks came out strong scoring on four of their first five drives including a 35 yard run by Julian Ramirez which was his first of three TD’s on the night.
They continued to pound the ground against the Highlanders scoring again on a one yard run after a 32 yard run by Ramirez to extend the lead to an impressive 13-0 lead.
Following another Highlander punt the Hyacks ran the ball down field resulting in another TD to making it 20-0 that saw Adrian Cagampan score on a four yard run and extend the score to 20-0.
They added two more TD’s including one by Adrian Cagampan that quickly turned that one into a score including a 53 yard  and Quarter-Back Jamie Shiho to Seymour and a 54 yarder by Jamie Shiho making it 34-0 after the opening quarter.
The Hyacks continued a dominating performance on both offence and defense and the rest of the game they substituted in second stringers to give the starters a well deserved rest.
New Westminster managed one more TD just before the half, extending the lead to 41-0 on a Julian Ramirez score on a six-yard run as the teams went to the half.
The second half as it was I in the first saw the Hyacks continue to dominate the Highlanders scoring early as Jordan Guzman (his third td of the game) extending the score to 48-0.
The defense had no mercy as they continued to pound the Highlanders into the ground Guzman’s TD was the only one of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw West Vancouver finally get on the board with a late 40-yard run from quarterback Finn Morales that saw the pivot hook up with receiver Charlie Welsh on a short scoring toss.
The pair also hooked up on the ensuing two-point conversion.
The Hyacks added one more score on a 16 yard run by Julian Ramirez making the score 54-8 (his third TD of the game) as they improved to 3-0 in conference play in 2014.
Overall their record stands at 3-1 with the only loss given up to the Grandview Zebras, a team in Texas when they visited them in a exhibition game in early August.
Previous scores for the Hyacks in 2014 were 30-14 over WJ Mouat and 11-6 over Centennial at Percy Perry Stadium their next game is against Notre Dame at Burnaby Lake next Friday at 7:30pm.
The tenth annual Homecoming game was presented by Key West Ford as well as several other local community sponsors present at the game.
