Minor hockey coach Martin Tremblay has officially be criminally charged with two counts of assault.
The event was caught on video which shows him allegedly tripping a 13-year-old player of the other team.
The player received a broken wrist from the incident, which had the hockey world in a terminal. Anyone watching it on the internet was out raged, considering this is a sport where these individuals are to teach the youngsters how to improve and have fun.
It took a while and hard work from the local Police, but they “got-em”! Martin Joseph George Tremblay (a coach of the UBC Hornets) is expected to be back in court September 13 to face the charges.
This all took place following the game and in a post-game handshake, which went from fun to sheer disgust – all due to Martin Tremblay!
The incident took place at UBC June 23 at the Thunderbird Arena. “It’s bittersweet,” said Richmond Steel team manager Tammy Holweg of the charges that come just days before her team’s boys are set to hit the ice again for the winter season. “We haven’t been in an ice rink since it happened. Now it’s all going to open up again and makes it hard for the boys that were involved to try and move on.”
The incident was caught by a parent on video and it show’s Martin Tremblay (his team won 5-4 against the Steel) moving down the post-game handshake line.
He stuck out his right foot. A defencemen in a blue Steel jersey, identified as Elizabeth Pappas’ son, is seen falling, causing a second player to fall to the ice as well.
The second player broke his wrist and was forced to wear a cast in the following weeks.
To show his lack of respect for the game and the all players he uses obscene gestures directed at the crowd with hand motions.
To show what he teaches the players, one of his (Tremblay’s) players is seen throwing a water bottle at the bleachers while his teammates applaud and cheer.
It is clear that this individual should be banned from taking part in this or any other sport where young persons play. He has lack of respect for himself and the sport.
It’s no wonder he was suspended from the Vancouver Minor Hockey Association. He was also banned indefinitely from that organization – what a shock!!
The video has been viewed around the world and enraged everyone in the minor hockey community.
This also caught the attention of news outlets across North America having many responses online blast Tremblay for the incident with many calling for stiff punishments, including jail time.
While Tremblay has been charged, someone should talk to the players that showed sheer disrespect for the game and the other team. Throwing a water bottle and showing disrespect clearly must have started from Tremblay alone.
One has to ask “What would you do if your son was the one that used profanity or showed disrespect to the players of the other team?”
Gee – I bet you would feel proud?
Obviously not a Coach that we would want in Delta!!
