HEAT DEFEAT WOLVES
For the second straight night the Heat took on the Chicago Wolves and managed wrap up their 8 game season series in front of a capacity crowd of 7,044.
This is the 4th sell-out in franchise history for the Heat organization, with the home team earning a thrilling 4-3 win in overtime.
Thursday’s game saw NHL legend Lanny MacDonald was selected by the Leafs as the 4th overall pick in the 1973 NHL Draft. He had three consecutive 40-goal seasons in Toronto in the mid 1970s.
He was traded to the Rockies in 79 and resulted in Toronto fans protesting against the deal.
He played parts of 3 seasons in Denver prior to being sent to Calgary in 81 where he played the remainder of his career.
He won the Stanley Cup in 1989, which was his final season.
He was among the most popular players in Flames history and was well known throughout the league for his moustache and strong support of the Special Olympics.
Greg Nemisz tallied in the opening frame, while Krys Kolanos and Clay Wilson each scored in the middle stanza to tie the game 3-3 after 60 minutes.
The game winner came late in the extra period as Brian Connelly got his sixth of the season with just 11.9 seconds remaining to secure the win and an important extra point for the home team.
Leland Irving started in net for the second consecutive night and stopped 28 of 31 shots for his 21st victory of the campaign.
