Harold Britton Conference Dominates

The PJHL held it’s annual all-star game Monday, January 12th at the Burnaby Winter Club off Canada Way and highway one.

It was hosted by the long time franchise Grandview Steelers hockey club and for an all-star game it started out extremely close for both Conferences.

The league itself consists of two conferences, with five teams in each and they were named for past individuals who did a stellar job with the league.

The Steelers are in the Tom Shaw Conference and currently hold a solid command of third position only trailing North Van and Richmond.

The game eventually saw the Harold Brittain Conference quickly turned the game into a one sided affair, opening the game wide open in the third managing to score eight times, pulling off a decisive 13-7 win.

The first saw both teams tied at 1 and with the explosive firepower of both clubs, the second ended with the Harold Brittain Conference taking a 5-3 lead to the dressing room.

The final period was one which was owned by the Harold Brittain Conference as they outscored the Tom Shaw Conference by an 8-2 edge.

Langley’s Carson Rose and North Van’s Spencer Quon traded goals in the first that saw them head to the dressing room tied at one.

Shots after one had the Tom Shaw Conference ahead 13-8 and both starting “tenders” Richmond’s Kurt Russell and Pilots Jacob Crawford played stellar.

The second saw the Harold Brittain Conference ring up four straight goals from Cameron Davitt (Kodiaks), Danny Wilson (Flames), Colin Catchpole (Knights) and Kodiaks Quincy Leroux gave the Conference a 5-1 lead.

By the 15:23 mark the Tom Shaw Conference score twice in the last minute with a pair From Delta’s Brent Chreptyk cutting the lead to 5-3.

The Harold Brittain held a wide edge in shots of 24-10 through two, with the final shot total 32-23 for the winners, who clearly dominated this stat.

Richmond’s Troy Kaczynski made it a one goal game early in the third before but only before Langley’s Carson Rose got his second of the game restoring a two goal lead.

Not to be outdone the Tom Shaw Conference again got within one (6-5) on a goal by newly acquired Grandview Steeler Adam Rota.

The Harold Brittain Conference ran off five straight goals to open the lead and never relinquished it.

Danny Wilson of the Flames managed two to complete his hat trick, while Adam Callegari (Kodiaks) and Bryce Pisiak (Mission City) with his first of two on the night to complete the rout.

North Van’s Spencer Quon got his second of the night and Richmond’s Daniel Oakley rounded out the scoring.

The game was an end to end tilt with the Harold Britton Conference pulling off a 13-7 win.

Shots through three periods were 50-30 for Harold Brittain with all “tenders” playing exceptional hockey.

All four took part and they were Kurt Russell and Nathan Alalouf for the Tom Shaw Conference both from Richmond and for the Harold Brittain Conference Jacob Crawford of Abbotsford and Kurt Klimek of the Flames.

Attendance was a standing room only crowd for the game a sellout for the classic the Most Valuable players for both squads saw Brent Chreptyk of Delta for the Tom Shaw Conference and Carson Rose of Langley for the Harold Brittain Conference.

This Annual game dates back to my time in the late 70ties and one thing stands out, and one word describes the league’s ability to put on a first class show.PIJHL
