If you’re playing sport, regardless of which one you play, one thing that is important is you know the rules and how the referee’s will enforce them.
In a recent game in the AHL New York Islanders 30 year old prospect David Leggio felt his chances at defending against a penalty show was his better option.
He is currently playing for the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, Bridgeport Sound Tigers and used his math skill he was taught in school to save his team a goal.
In a 2 on 0 break players from the Springfield Falcons were coming in on him and he (Leggio) decided to just knock the net off and suffer the consequences. Sound strange but it’s true!
He actually figured he’d take his chances on a penalty shot, rather than face 2 guys.
Listen as the announcers fail to understand the rules and bounce back and forth on what the call might be from the officials, who actually have to discuss the call, which at this level surprises me!
