The Vancouver Giants continue to improve and making changes to such a successful club is something we have come to be familiar with, especially in Delta.
Personal move on and it’s no real surprise or shock that they were looking at adding someone to the role of Assistant GM.
The announcement was made official by the Vancouver Giants’ and in adding another portfilo to his current title it was announced that the VP of operations, Peter Toigo was officially named the major junior hockey club’s assistant GM..
This is only an addition to his current role as he assisted Giants GM Glen Hanlon in the role, only now it’s official.
Giants GM Glen Hanlon mentioned “Peter has worked in the capacity of assistant general manager since I arrived last year and I believe that now is a good time to formally announce Peter’s expanded role as we move forward.”
He continued “We feel good about the direction that the team is going in, and Peter has been a big part of that plan.”
Peter earned a Bachelor’s degree in business administration at Gonzaga University and has worked as operations coordinator for the 2007 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
He went on to join the Giants in 2008 as the club’s director of team services and was named the club’s vice-president of operations in 2011 – a role he will continue to serve in while also taking on the responsibilities of assistant general manager.
Peter mentioned “I’ve been passionate about the Western Hockey League from a young age and I’ve also been privileged to observe and learn from some great hockey people over the last decade including individuals such as Don Hay, Scott Bonner and Jason Ripplinger and I’ve spent lots of time working with Glen Hanlon this past season.”
He went on to mention I’m excited to continue working with Glen, and I’m optimistic about what the future will bring for the Vancouver Giants.”
Player movement
The Vancouver Giants are busy signing yet another one of their WHL Bantam Draft picks by announcing they have signed third-round pick (six-foot, 200-pound) Krz Plummer to a WHL standard player agreement.
Plummer who calls Whitecourt home mentioned “It’s been a dream of mine for a while and I’m super happy to finally sign and I’m really excited for the future.”
He is permitted to play in five (5) games with the Giants (next season) before his midget season ends.
He managed eight (8) goals and 20 points in 27 games with the POE (Pursuit of Excellence) Bantam prep team. plus another two goals and six points in five games helping his team win the Bantam Prep championship.
Competing at the Alberta Cup in April, he had four goals and one assist in five games for Team Northwest.
“Krz is an all-around player who has a strong physical side to his game and excels in the tough areas of the rink,” said Vancouver general manager Glen Hanlon.
“His size is above average for his age, and we think he’s going to be someone who can control the boards and control the front of the net. He was eager to come and play for the Giants, and we’re excited to add him to our group.”
