The Manitoba Bisons on a game winning goal by Alexandra Anderson at 17:35 of the second overtime period to win the game 2-1.
This win ties of the best of three semi-final series at a game apiece with the UBC Thunderbirds Women’s team before a raucous crowd at Father David Bauer Arena forcing a third and deciding game on Sunday afternoon.
The first period the T-birds gave the Bisons all they could handle creating several chances against Rachel Dyck who had to make several huge saves to keep the game scoreless.
The Birds controlled the play and T-Birds netminder Samatha Langford faced shots that her defense let her see clearly as the teams headed to the intermission 0-0
There was a lot of feeling in this game between the Bisons and the T-Birds with UBC as the collisions along the boards and open hits were very feisty and lots of emotions.
In the second period the Bisons opened the scoring on the power play as Jayden Skoleski beat Langford in the T-Birds net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead 2and half minutes in.
UBC got the equalizer from defenseman Kelly Murray who sent a rocket past Rachel Dyck of the Bison three minutes later to event the game one.
From there the match was very entertaining and hard hitting with a lot of emotion between the team as they exchanged scoring chances the game remained tied as they went to the intermission.
Shots favored the UBC 16-12 through 40 minutes.
The third period was just as exciting as the teams exchanged chances with some superlative goalkeeping battle between Langford of the T-Birds and Dyck of the Bisons.
There was several solid hits in the period along with some great scoring chances by both teams, but no one could squeeze the go ahead goal in regulation time through 60 minutes shots were 20-19 for UBC.
They went to a minute overtime period to try and settle it but solid goalkeeping between Langford and Dyck kept the game tied.
With both goalkeepers coming up with huge saves there was a Ice clean and they headed for 20 minutes of more great overtime hockey.
