Jackson Signs With UBC

I get excited anytime I hear of a pro athlete, regardless of the sport turn their attention to help the youth work on perfecting the skills they were given in order to advance to the next level of the game.

Jackson was selected in the 2003 CFL Draft in the first round, 6th overall by the BC Lions and eventually signed with them partway through the 2003 season as a back-up wide receiver.

Not to surprising as when he attended Carson Graham School in North Vancouver, while in his Senior year he set the schools single-game record for most rushing yards and TD’s.

He finished with 2,138 yards rushing and pulled in 24 TD’s, which most would say was “simply remarkable.”

He played in the 2004 grey Cup (against Toronto) and managed 223 yards on 16 passes, but eventually saw more playing time in 2005.

This season saw him finish with 617 yards on 48 catches as well as finishing which included 4TD’s and was a team-high 6 receptions in the CFL West Division Final.

While with Edmonton in 2014 he played only 2 games for 68 yards averaging 9.7 per carry.

During his CFL regular season career he played 194 games, gathering 5,859 yards averaging 13.5 per carry, collecting 31 TD’s.

During the CFL playoffs he played in 17 games for 619 yards running in for 4 TD’s.

Now he has turned his attention to giving back, but it’s not to any school, it’s the prestigious UBC Thunderbird’s.

He has been named receivers coach for the UBC Thunderbird Vanier Cup Champions for the coming 2016 season, which is a huge signing for the school.

It should be noted that Paris Jackson was a member of two Grey Cup winning BC Lions team and has over 400 career CFL receptions.

Jackson told the media “I’m very excite and anytime you get the chance to work with a head coach like Blake Nill and an offensive coordinator like Steve Burrato as for this team, the sky is the limit.”

He continued “The city of Vancouver, the students, and the fans of UBC football will be proud of what we put on the field this year.”

On the other hand UBC Head Coach Blake Nill stated “I’m very impressed with Paris’ passion and work ethic when coaching and I’m equally impressed by the presence he brings to the football field, which is vitally important when coaching young players.”

Training camp for the “Birds” begins August 13th at Thunderbird Stadium and they expect a full turnout.
