The 2017 Provincial Girls Hockey Championships took place on three fronts in BC with the first seeing the Pee Wee’s play in Cloverdale, the Midget Female in Parksville and the Bantam’s playing at the Richmond Ice Center.

Kelowna wrapped up a perfect record playing in Cloverdale going 5-0 defeating Tri-Cities Female 4-2 taking the crown for the 2017 season with Tri-Cities coming short taking Silver, while Kelowna took home Bronze.

The host team the Surrey Falcons finished third with a 7-0 shutout over Kamloops in the Pee Wee tournament and with games played in Parksville in the Midget Female division the title went to South Island.

Throughout the tournament they managed to go undefeated grabbing Gold with a 4-0-1 record and defeated Surrey 2-1 who were awarded Silver while Bronze went to the Richmond Ravens with a 3-2 win over Kamloops.

As with female hockey programs throughout Canada female program is outstanding and on a special note we offer our sincere “thanks” to the volunteers and the support the communities have shown that hosted this year in both Cloverdale and Parksville.

The Bantam Tournament in Richmond is just wrapping up and watching some of the games we can clearly mention that the hockey has been exceptional.

The tournament wraps up tonight in Richmond as the host Ravens will meet the Tri-Cities Female in the title game on the Coliseum at 7:30pm.

Again we have seen tremendous hockey from the girls all week on the ice as the competition has been excellent put on by the host Ravens making it fun for the kids and the parents.

The championship game featured the hometown favorite Richmond Ravens and Tri-Cities Female the number #1 and #2  teams in the rankings as the Ravens were 6-0 and Tri Cities were 5-1 heading into the championship game.

The first goal shocked the Ravens crowd but they fought back playing strong coming close to getting the equalizer but The Tri-Cities goalie stoned the all Ravens shooters.

The Ravens “tender” was equal to the task facing all Tri-City Shooters allowing the just the one goal heading to the intermission trailing 1-0.

The Ravens scored cutting the deficit to 2-1 and tested the Tri-Cities “D” forcing them to come up huge saves maintaining the lead midway through the third.

A late power play for the Ravens saw them almost tie the game but were unable to get the all important tying goal fell short or of their championship dreams by a 2-1 deficit.

Thanks to all the teams taking part in the Bantam hockey as we  had the luxury of watching saw from the best girls hockey in the Province.
