Down To The Wire Win
The Los Angeles Dodgers captured the Seventh World Series Baseball title on Tuesday night in franchise history knocking off the Tampa Bay Rays in six game’s in the 2020 championship series 4 game’s to 2 in a highly entertaining series and their first title in 32 years.
The Dodgers went in game 6 up 3-2 in the series lead over Tampa Bay who were in their second world series and first since 2008 when they played the Philadelphia Phillies and lost the series 4 game’s to 1.
The Rays were hoping to extend the 2020 series with the Dodgers and force a seventh and deciding game.
But It was the Dodgers year with the best record in baseball going 43-17 in the regular season and 13-5 in four playoff rounds culminating in defeating Tampa Bay in the deciding game and winning 4 game’s to 2 and finishing the year with a record of 56-22 combined.
It Was Tampa Bay that opened the scoring in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over LA and they continued to lead their opponents with the only run in the game through 6 innings on an excellent pitched game by Blake Snell going 5 and ⅔ innings allowing one on 2 hits and striking out 9 Dodgers.
Leaving the game tied at 1-1 reliever Nick Anderson came in pitching a ⅓ of inning and allowed the Dodgers to go 2-1 which proved to be the winner in the game taking them to this year’s title. The Dodgers added an insurance run in the 8th inning off Rays reliever Peter Fairbanks and led the Rays by a 3-1 score from there the Dodgers bullpen took over for starter Tony Gonsolin who allowed one Rays run on 3 hits striking out 4 and walking two batters allowing Tampa’s only run off a home run.
In order Dylan Floro, Alex Wood, Pedro Baez, Victor Gonzalez, Brusdar Graterol, and Julio Urias finished off Tampa Bay the rest of the with scoreless ball combining for 13 strikeouts and allowing just three hits.
It was the Dodgers World series title since 1988. On an interesting note 3rd baseman Justin Turner was taken out of the in the 8th after learning he had contracted Covid-19 coming back with a positive test by the Dodger manager and leaving the game.
Thanks to MLB facts for the following info:
If you want to discuss the Dodgers’ overall record, not in 2020 but dating back for the last while.
It should be noted that their WP% of .629 for the past four (4) seasons, which also includes the playoffs, is the highest of any team in a four-year span in the Wild Card Era.
They have currently overtaken the 1996-99 Yankees, who managed to have a WP% of .628 also mentioning that those Yankees managed to win three (3) World Series titles in that four-year span.
If we look at the Father/Son team it should be noted that Cody Bellinger joins his father, Clay, as a World Series champion.
His Father (Clay) played for three (3) teams that won the World Series — the 1999 Yankees, 2000 Yankees and ’02 Angels, but he only appeared in the 2000 Series for the club.
It’s reported by MLB that they are the eighth father-son duo to both win at least one title as players, this according to the Elias Sports Bureau, joining Ray and Bob Boone, Pedro Borbon Sr. and Jr., Sal and Drew Butera, Dave and Chris Duncan, Jim and Mike Hegan, Julian and Stan Javier and Ed and Scott Spiezio.
For Betts, this is another item for the trophy case — which already includes the aforementioned 2018 World Series, as well as the ‘18 American League MVP Award. He’s the first MVP Award winner to win a World Series title with multiple franchises,
