Prior to any Bowl game, it’s a long way from high school to the stage set by the NFL and making it to any Super Bowl.
First there is the recruiting profile for both teams that all players go through and while similar it’s interesting to note that Seattle’s starting line-up had an average star rating of only 2.4 as high school prospects, while New England’s had a 2.3 as high school prospects.
Neither of the two team’s playing this year can honestly boasts that they have a former five-star recruit yet both have four former four-stars.
Seattle has 11 former three-star players, while New England has nine falling into this category for schooling.
Not really a shock as it is stated that only five-stars make up less than 1% of all FBS/FCS recruits and four-stars are less than 10%.
While it is noted that 37% are in the three-star category and quite possibly 55% are rated as only two stars or quite possibly unrated.
Tom Brady was an unrated recruit at a time when few recruits were rated on a national level, but he was thought of well enough to earn a scholarship offer from Michigan, which was contending for Big Ten titles on an annual basis.
If the star system was around in 1995 when Brady graduated from high school, he would have likely been rated as a four- or five-star recruit.
Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots was extremely highly rated and out of Pittsburgh he was the No. 4 tight end ranked at the national level
Marshawn Lynch went on and signed with Cal (2004) out of Oakland Tech and was rated the # 2 running back in the Country.
Seattle star QB Russell Wilson was only a three-star recruit and played other sports such as football and baseball out of Richmond, Virginia.
While he is small in stature (5’11, 180) one has to question if this was a determent to his rating.
While size should not be an impact a QB rating, in some situations they do, but regardless of the sceptics, he (Wilson) overcame it.
Tom Brady (QB) attended Michigan and was not rated
Russell Wilson (QB) attended NC State/Wisconsin and was had a 3 star rating
Marshawn Lynch (RB) attended California and had a 4 star rating.
Without it you might not make it to take part in a game of this level, so think before you DROP OUT!!
