Delta Hammer Sockeyes

Delta took a piece from the old text book and managed to play a full 60 minutes managing to pull off a resounding 6-1 win over the Sockeyes.

The game could have been a 4 point game, but Delta managed to move into second place in the Tom Shaw standings.

They managed to move past North Vancouver improving their record to 6-5-0-0 closing to within 4 points of first place Grandview Steelers.

Until now a virtual unknown Ice Hawks forward Tetsuya Prior managed to grab a pair clinching the victory over the Sockeyes.

The loss see’s the Sockeye’s drop their five or their past six home games in 2016-17, which to many is a shock.

Getting yet another start Delta’s Jordan Naylor made 27 saves only facing 28 on the night.

Delta’s Mark Trotman got the first starting Delta’s romp off at 8:57 into period one beating Sockeyes Kurt Russell after a set-up from Jordan Bogress.

Tetsuya Prior got his first of two goals on the night on the PP at 18:27 beating Russell on a unassisted effort taking a 2-0 lead to the intermission.

Delta outshot Richmond after one by a 16-12 total with Richmond taking two minors to Delta’s lone minor.

The second saw a more evenly played period as the game settled down seeing both clubs having numerous scoring opportunities.

Sockeye’s Connor Kavanagh was assessed a Minor for Checking From Behind plus the automatic Game Misconduct which accompanies the minor but Delta was unable to capitalize on this PP.

Hawks Cuthbert was assessed a minor for delay of game (shooting the puck out of play), putting the Sockeyes on the PP allowing Crawford to get one on the board, making it a 2-1 game.

With the second dwindling to a close the period ended with Delta leading by a 2-1 margin, while also outshooting Richmond 27-20.

The third saw Delta take control getting scoring from four different players leading the charge.

corner-playCuthbert, Stein, Sihota each managed one, but it was Prior who got things started in the third getting his second of the game at 2:16 after being set up from Marsh and Lin.

Cuthbert’s was on the PP and a blast from the right point beating Russell of the Sockeyes extended Delta’s lead to 4-1.

Delta added two late goals from Jonathon Stein and Sihota sealing the deal for Delta allowing them to pull off a 6-1 win.

Delta peppered 17 shots at Kurt Russell in the third alone, making it 44 on the night, while Naylor only faced 28 shots allowing one goal.

naylor-saveNaylor finished with a SV% of .964 while Russell had a SV% of .863 on the night.

All home games are broadcast live on Delta TV with follow-up’s done by Sportswave.ca.

The Ice Hawks next game is October 18th as they play host to the Surrey Knights with the face-off set for 7:35pm.
