The C’s take to the diamond in the second home game of the early 2012 season, under overcast 66 degree cloudy skies.
The pre-game was somewhat simplified than that of last night’s game for the home opener, given it was the first game since the championship game.
Rob Fai returns to the air-waves for his 6th season behind the microphone for the C’s and continues to entertain all C’s fans.
The Superstars Series continues this summer with John Olerud at the Nat June 23rd and George Bell July 9th.
John Olerud is making a special guest appearance at the Nat” Saturday and it could feel a tad odd for him, considering how few minor league parks he visited during his playing career.
The former Blue Jays first baseman, the guy with the lefty swing that was so picturesque you could practically hear harps playing when he was rapping out line drives, is coming up from his Bellevue, Wash., home to help promote the Vancouver Canadians’ game against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
The C’s have 11 returning players from last season, which include 5 pitchers, 1 infielder, 2 outfielders and 3 on the disabled list.
It’s in part due to the professional nature of the team, plus the players love the city.
This season for each strike out the C’s pitchers record in 2012 will aid St. Paul’s Hospital as a part of the Strike Out Heart Disease program.
The C’s had their 9th straight regular-season sell-out at the Nat dating back to last season.
For this game (RHP) they got six great innings from Taylor Cole who allowed seven hits and one run in the top of the 4th.
This gave the C’s their 5th victory in a seven games for the Short Single A Ball Season.
Both (RHP) Phil Brua and (RHP closer) Drew Permison managed the final three frames without giving up a run.
The C’s got an RBI single from (DH) Matt Newman in the bottom of the 4th scoring Pompey to tie the game at 1-1.
Pompey and Baligod where both on base in the bottom of the 8th inning when 1B Balbino Fuenmayor hit a two-run double deep to center field off of Tri-City reliever John Hungerman to help the C’s to their first home win of the season.
The victory improves the C’s record to 5-2 on the season and maintain a share of top spot in the Northwest League’s West Division.
The loss drops Tri-City to 3-4 (.429).

Canadians OF Ron Melendez was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a hand injury while INF Jorge Flores was activated prior to Thursday night’s game.
Vancouver’s streak of consecutive sellouts (9) ended with 3,730 fans taking in the action on an overcast night out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
