C’s Win 4th Straight
A bases-loaded walk to Canadians CF Earl Burl III in the bottom of the 3rd inning broke a 2-2 tie and helped Vancouver win its fourth straight game over Eugene as the C’s topped the Emeralds 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
3B Gunnar Heidt led the Canadians offensive attack going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen bases, his 8th of the season, while DH Lane Thomas drove in his team-leading 28th RBI of the season to help Vancouver improve to 7-1 over the past eight games.
Toronto Blue Jays 1st Round Selection in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft RHP Jon Harris went 2 1/3 innings for the Canadians allowing a two-run home run to Eugene 1B Matt Rose in the top of the 2nd inning.
The quartet of LHP Dan Young (2.2IP), LHP Stuart Holmes (1.2IP), RHP Sean Ratcliffe (1.1IP) and RHP Andrew Case (1.0IP) went the final 6 2/3 innings without allowing a run as Young got his first professional win, Andrew Case his 7th save of the season.
The victory improves Vancouver to 15-19 (.441) on the season, while damaging the Emeralds playoff hopes as the Emeralds fall to 16-18 (.471), 3 ½ games back of Hillsboro with the Hops having just four games left in the first half.
After losing nine consecutive games between July 5-13, a franchise record, Vancouver has gone 7-1 (.875) and are the hottest team in the Northwest League over the past 10 games (7-3).
