C’s Celebrate Canada Day With A Win

With everyone on hand celebrating Canada Day at the “Nat” it goes without saying that there would be another sell-out crowd as the Canadians played host to Rockies affiliate the Spokane Indians.

No different than the weather, the C’s are hot given their 11-2 victory and have their sights set on pulling on another league championship which is realistic considering this was their first win on Canada Day since 2016.

The C;s got strong pitching from Dahian Santos who continued through five in addition to getting a pair of homers from prospect Cade Doughty

Spokane managed to score an unearned run in the top of the first which is ironic that this is the third consecutive game they managed the early lead – but the C’s evened the score in the home half.

Michael Turconi  got a one-out walk which was followed-up by Alex De Jesus’ double sending runners at second and third that saw a wild pitch even the score.

After a strikeout, Gabby Martinez managed an RBI after a strikeout with an infield single giving the C’s a 2-1 lead that saw Santos continue to stymie the Indians for the rest of his outing.

He managed four singles and never allowed an earned run or a walk, hit a batter and K’ed five on the way to secure the win while it’s interesting to know that he hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last nine innings.

The second saw Alan Roden’s RBI double that proved to be the eventual winning run and you could sense that C’s GM Brent Lavallie wanted more as he was playing in front of family and friends.

The C’s added a pair in the third on a two-out single by Estiven Machado followed up with Doughty going deep for the first time in the sixth taking a commanding 8-1 lead.

The Indians managed another in the top of the seventh only to have Roden manage his third hit of the day driving in run number nine.

Doughty delivered a two-run shot in the eight giving the Canadians the 11-2 win to the delight of Canada Day frenzy supporters.

Doughty managed a two-homer’s was his first in High-A and second as a pro noting that he has driven in 40 runs in 58 games this year.

Roden collected three hits, raising his season average to a team-best .307 while Turconi worked four walks to match a C’s single-game season high.

With the win, Vancouver is now a season-best 15 games over .500 at 44-29 and have matched a season-long winning streak at five straight.

The Canadians have their sights set for a series sweep over Spokane sending Devereaux Harrison to the mound with the first pitch set for 1:05 p.m.

Tune in for the call of the game from Tyler Zickel who joined the C’s in 2021 and enjoys his fourth season with the Jay’s organization.
