The Vancouver Whitecaps ended their three game losing streak with a much needed 2 nil win over visiting Real Salt Lake in front of 19,283 Cap’s supporters at BC Place.
The Cap’s got goals from Christian Techera and Alphonso Davies pulling out a 2-0 over the team that began the recent losing streak that began by a 2-1 loss on April 7th at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Real Salt Lake is the last team they scored a goal against during the losing streak that saw them get outscored 10-1 thumping as they headed into Friday’s game.
Vancouver started well from the opening kickoff getting some early chances as Anthony Blondell could have buried two chances in the opening 10 minutes but fired the ball just inches wide as the game remained scoreless.
Christian Techera followed up with several chances but was denied by Real Salt Lake “keeper” Nick Rimando forcing him to come up with key last minute saves from the top of the penalty area.
Real Salt Lake began having chances, but not until the 30th minute that saw Jefferson Savarino and Corey Baird test Stefan Marinovic who kept the visitors off the score sheet.
Blondell had an exceptional chance just prior to the halftime whistle forcing Nick Rimando to come up a huge palming of the ball the wide from the edge of the box as the teams went to the half in a scoreless draw.
The second half saw Vancouver come out strong having several several chances that saw them narrowly miss on the finishing touch.
Brek Shea rang one off the post that could have been heard in Surrey that sent the rebound floating across the goal line coming up short and wide.
Anthony Blondell was breaking in an eventually tackled by defender Nick Besler in the penalty area that saw referee Sorin Stoica quick to awarded a penalty kick.
Making no mistake Christian Techera buried it behind Rimando giving the Cap’s the lead in the 77th minute.
In a display of jubilation or just being forgetful, his celebrated was far too overboard and as per the rules he was carded once for being over excited, then received a second yellow that went straight to red when he removed his jersey.
Which put the Caps down to 10 men for the remainder of the game Alphonso Davies two minutes later stealing the ball at his own 35 yard line managed to cut across the defenders burying it past Rimando in the 79th minute making it 2 nil.
From the there the Caps kept a clean sheet defending with 10 men for the second straight game and goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic stopped all the scoring chances that the visitors set up in recording the shutout for the home side on this night as well his defenders played exceptional also clearing the ball out of danger.
The 4th official indicated that there would be an additional 6 minutes of added time but additional time proved nothing.

Vancouver improved to .500 as their record improved to 4-4-1 good for 13 points moving them into second place in the western conference in the lone game in league play.
Vancouver now hit the road for their match next Saturday April 5th in Minnesota before returning home for two game home stand against Houston (April 11th) and San Jose April 16th with three matches in the next 11 days.
