BCHL Commissioner John Grisdale announced that Chilliwack has been selected as the site for the inaugural BCHL Showcase and will be held at the 5,000 seat home of the Chief’s – the Prospera Centre September 7th -9th
The Showcase, an event that will bring all 16 BCHL teams together for two games each.
“Showcase events such as this are staged by other Leagues in North America and have proven to be hugely successful,” Grisdale said, “and we are extremely pleased that Chilliwack and the Chiefs will host our first one.”
Former Chilliwack Mayor Clint Hames, who will co-chair the event organizing committee along with Chiefs President Glen Ringdal, said the Showcase will be a “community effort” and an “excellent way to show off our City and our love for BCHL hockey.”
Members of the organizing committee will also include Chamber of Commerce Chair Kevin Gemmell; Tourism Chilliwack’s Marketing and Event Specialist Joldie Hayes; Chilliwack City Director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, Gord Pederson; and Chiefs Head Coach Harvey Smyl.
Current Chilliwack Mayor Sharon Gaetz called the announcement “great news for the City” and congratulated the organizing committee for its hard work in landing the event.
She said the event will attract hockey fans from the other 15 BCHL cities and give them an opportunity to enjoy Chilliwack hospitality and amenities.
The schedule of game matchups as well as ticket pricing and availability will be announced before the end of April.
The Chiefs’ Ringdal said, “As always, our season ticket holders will be given first opportunity to select seats at reduced prices.”
