Cheap Shots Must Stop!
I for one don’t like any cheap-shots in any sport and for those who take liberties on other players, it’s time to grow-up or quit playing.
Cheap-shots can be career ending for the one on the receiving end of them, something no one wants’ to get hit with.
Given all the controversy with suspensions in the NHL and how Brandon Shanahan has been dealing with them, it brings new light on what direction is headed.
For my liking, I personally think he has done more to clean up the game in a short time than any of his predecessors.
Shanahan was drafted in the first round # 2 overall in the 1987 Entry Draft and played his first game in the NHL in 1987 with the Devils.
He finished his career in 08-09 with the Devils and played a total of 1524 games with 656 goals and 698 assists for a point total of 1354. So he knows the game inside out.
I received a notice from the QMHL regarding a knee-on-knee hit which the league is taking very serious, and it’s about time!
While this took place last season, let’s not forget what was done.
Jonathan Lessard of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar was suspended 15 games by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for a knee-on-knee hit that ended the season of the Quebec Remparts’ Nick Sorensen.

Lessard caught Sorensen with a knee as the Swedish forward was cutting into the centre of the ice in his own end late in the second period of Quebec’s 2-0 victory over Baie-Comeau on Oct. 28.
“The incident is not the first for the player at fault.”
The league also fined Remparts coach and general manager Patrick Roy $2,500 for comments he made to the media after the game.
Roy said a severe suspension was needed but questioned whether league disciplinarian Raymond Bolduc was “too nice” to hand out a stiff penalty.
At no time will I permit that a staff member QMJHL club make inappropriate comments toward League personnel, especially in regards to their capacity to accomplish a mandate which I have given them,” Courteau told the media.
Maybe one day more league’s will follow suit.
Career ending hits are not needed in any sport!!!
