Given the recent success both on and off the field for the Blue Jays its only fitting that they keep Manager John Gibbons (53) for the upcoming MLB season.
He guided the Blue Jays to their first division title in 22 years following several high-profile acquisitions that helped the team to a 93-60 record in the American League East.
Gibbons owns a 555-541 record over parts of eight years and two stints as manager and following the recent departure of Alex Anthopoulos Shapiro announced that assistant GM Tony LaCava has been promoted to interim GM of the Jay’s.
Mark Shapiro President of baseball operations for the Jay’s told the media during his introductory press conference of the early off-season where he also confirmed the entire front office and coaching staff has been invited to return under their same roles for the 2016 season.
It should be noted that Alex was named by the Sporting News as Major League Baseball’s executive of the year, so for the fans in “hog-town” that is a tough pill to swallow, as he helped the Jays make it to the post-season for the first time since 1993.
This was done as he set out and acquired LMB all-stars at the deadline that include the like of Troy Tulowitzki and David Price to name only two.
Shapiro told the media “Like all of you, I’m disappointed that Alex won’t be back, and it was my sincere hope to have the chance to learn from him.”
It will be interesting to see if Shapiro travels to Vancouver to “catch” any of the Single A Vancouver Canadians games at Nat Bailey Stadium like both Alex and Paul did.
Here’s hoping?
