Championships Head 2 Christina Lake Golf Club
Christina Lake Golf Club in Christina Lake will host the several of the most talented female golfers in BC July 3-6 for the British Columbia Golf Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships.
Christina Lake GC is a Par 72, 6,189 yards and uses the Monashee and Selkirk mountains as a scenic setting for the players who are competing to lift the Flumerfelt Cup as Amateur champion.
After finishing with a double title at the 2011 Championship; Christina Proteau of Port Alberni looks to defend her victory.
Up and coming 2010 Amateur Champion Christine Wong is looking to steal-the-show at Christina Lake GC who played impressive golf for the San Diego Aztecs during her 2011-2012 campaign.
Other notable favourites for the Amateur title will be 2012 CN Canadian Women’s Tour winner Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, 2011 third-place finisher Anica Yoo of Port Coquitlam, 2012 USGA Girls’ junior qualifier Naomi Ko of Victoria and Team Canada member Taylor Kim of Surrey.
In the Mid-Amateur Championship, Proteau will have her work cut out for her if she wants to keep Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay out of the champion’s circle.
Stouffer finished 3rd in the 2011 Championship and will look to repeat in 2012 with a stellar performance.
Other Mid-Amateur Championship leader-board favourites are Victoria’s Alison Quinlan and Vancouver’s Phyllis Laschuk, both of whom have extensive golfing resumes and are more than capable of an excellent Championship.
The format for the Women’s Amateur includes both gross and net competition.
The net competition is 54-holes; gross is 72-holes (cut after 36 holes).
The Mid-Amateur is a 54-hole gross stroke play competition with no cut. The Master-40 Division is for players aged 40 and older as of the first day of the competition.
Two-woman club teams are selected after the second round by taking the two players with the lowest gross score from each club with two or more competitors and the two players with the lowest net score from each club with two or more competitors.
The top-3 competitors from the British Columbia Women’s Amateur Championship will also be selected to represent British Columbia at the Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship to be held July 24-27 2012 at Lethbridge CC in Lethbridge.
