Challenging + Interesting = Unique

It’s a long way from Delta to Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia and in fact the traveling a total of 12,500 kilometres was well worth it.

Law, who rides for Subaru NSWIS & MS, finished the 70 lap, 51.8 kilometre race in one hour, 27 minutes and 47 seconds with lap times for the riders dropping as low as 47 seconds.

The Subaru team’s plan was to get a quick start and maintain it throughout the race, which worked as they had planned.

Being a team member is one thing, but to have your younger brother (Jackson) on the team is another, but the end result saw them work well together and as some mentioned “feed off each other.”

At times they did make a few changes, by swapping things up for who would take the lead in a specific lap of the race.

We were told that there were over 100 riders on the start line, but the course took it’s toll as only 65 managed to finished the race.

The start of the race we did feel a few light drops of “liquid sunshine” and for a while some course officials were concerned about course conditions as the road might become slick.

While it did rain (lightly) the road course had it’s concern’s, but given the expert riders the crashes that occurred were minimal with no serious injuries to anyone – rider and/or spectator(s).

The second place finisher Justin Williams, who rides for Team Cylance/Incycle p/b Cannondale, mentioned to Delta TV that “the final couple of laps were a bit of a roller coaster.”

He continued “It was calm at times, and then other times it was touch and go, but I was really just waiting for the surge to come. Scott’s an amazingly fast wheel to follow and we kind of felt the surge coming and we both jumped for the corner. We made it through alright; it wasn’t so bad where I was sitting.”

With this being his first trip to BC Superweek, he felt that with the course having some tight corners, the Brenco Criterium represents his type of race.

Williams being no stranger to an interview continued “It’s a lot tighter than some of the crit courses in the US, but I like it. Corners are my thing so I love a course when it’s flowing and there’s a lot of corners because I can hold my momentum better than a couple of other guys. It makes the race easier for me.”

Having not one, but two riders from Australia, 20-year-old Michael Rice rides for Garneau-Quebecor and it’s obvious that this type of racing clearly agrees with him.

With a third place finish in Delta Brenco Criterium, it should be known that only last month he was on the podium at the Tour de Beauce in Quebec after winning Stage 3b.

It was clearly an exceptional race, with a unique track that the riders were impressed with saying “it was well worth the challenge for all riders and this is going to test our abilities as riders.”

Sunday will be interesting for all riders as well as challenging!!
