For those unable to attend the match in person the day was filled with a pair of exciting games that showcased the current and upcoming talent in the system for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
As everyone knows we are fortunate to have various sporting events throughout the summer months which clearly takes its toll on the fan base but mainly for the “farm team” but seldom takes a toll on the pro team.
This was noticeable in the first match of the day but regardless those attending were impressed with the talent on the field despite the fact that the Whitecaps FC 2 managed a 1-1 draw against Western Conference leaders Colorado Rapids 2.
Despite the draw Colorado got the extra point in the 4-3 penalty shootout victory which for the Caps marks the first time in their history that the ‘Caps played a home match at BC Place.
Vancouver jumped out on the sheet that saw Mihail Gherasimencov get on the board, sending a cross narrowly over Rapids 2 keeper Adam Beaudry in the 37th minute being up 1 nil at the half.
Colorado got on the board that saw Rémi Cabral even the match in the 69th minute after Boehmer turned one away from Yosuke Hanya.
Coupland had a chance to pull out the win but appeared to be fouled by Beaudry in the penalty box prior to getting a shot only to have the referee wave away the call for the final whistle setting up a shootout that saw Marlon Vargas score the final penalty to win the extra point.

As if one match wasn’t enough the Whitecaps showcase their talent in the second match of the day playing their 150th all-time meeting against their rivals south of the 49th.
From the start it was a game that saw both clubs having chances with the Sounders forcing Vancouver’s “D” that saw Luís Martins, Mathías Laborda, and Ranko Veselinović with impressive blocks.
The Cap’s opened the scoring in the 24th minute that set up a free kick with Ryan Gauld sending an impressive cross to Veselinović who sent one in the side netting.
The ‘Caps continued to press and saw a header from Laborda hit the post in the 34th minute after a corner with several fans thinking they might go up by a pair.
The second half saw Seattle start strong that saw them even the match in the 60th minute with the tying goal off a corner from Nico Lodeiro sending one to Léo Chú.
Vancouver continued to press with Brian White who literally headed straight in sending one to Gauld giving the Caps 2-1 lead.
The game continued to see both clubs change possession and to no surprise it was Chú scored all thanks to a header from Jackson Ragen making it 2-2.
With the match coming to a close Laborda was given his second yellow card turning to his red card forcing the ‘Caps to play with 10 men.
As if this isn’t enough for the Cap’s it was Sounders defender Yeimar who sent in a rebound in stoppage time giving Seattle all three points
