As with other teams/clubs it’s essential to get the “right” people to work with you so as to have any successful business and the Canucks are no different.
The recent promotion of Victor de Bonis is something that can and will elevate the club to a new level and given the recent “slump” they are on, this is a welcome addition.
He graduated from the UBC earning a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1989, begining his career at KPMG Chartered Accountants in the corporate audit division.
He was in this role for four years, auditing private and public companies in the Hospitality, Broadcasting, Mining, Healthcare and Manufacturing industries.
He entered the forensic accounting specialization, which was his final one with the firm.
He went on to become a CA (chartered account) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC getting elected in 2012 to the Fellowship of Chartered Accountants.
He joined Orca Bay Sports & Entertainment in 1994 as its Corporate Controller where he was on the group that developed/implemented new business strategies for Rogers Arena in addition to the organization’s NHL and NBA franchises.
He became responsible for managing the public company’s private placement and for its new 18,000-seat multi-purpose arena.
He was appointed CFO (1998) responsible for managing all business operations, beginning his current role March 2007.
He became an Alternate Governor of the NHL in 2010, until today where the Aquilini Group announced he is taking on an expanded and new role as the Aquilini Group’s (COO) Chief Operating Officer overseeing the Aquilini Group’s Entertainment, Hospitality and Treasury Divisions.
He will stay involved with the Canucks continuing to watch over the team’s business operations, including his successor on the Senior Leadership Team.
He has been a member of the Canucks organization for over 22 years.
Currently serves as Vice President on the Canucks for Kids Fund Board and was newly named Director to the board of Special Olympics British Columbia.
Victor and his wife, Mary, have three children and Sportswave congrats him on his promotion.
Thanks to the Canucks media department for the info. A great group of individuals to deal with.
