Canucks 2012 Draft Selections

Vancouver Canucks President & GM Mike Gillis announced that the Canucks have selected Brendan Gaunce (C), Alexandre Mallet (Forward), Ben Hutton (D-man), Wesley Myron (Forward) and  Matthew Beattie (LW) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Gaunce, 18, was selected 26th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He spent the 2011.12 season in the OHL with the Belleville Bulls, collecting 68 points (28-40-68) and 68 penalty minutes in 68 games played to rank first on the team in scoring.

Mallet, 20, was selected in the second round, 57th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6’1”, 194 lbs. forward recorded 81 points (34-47-81) and 132 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games with the QMJHL Rimouski Oceanic. In 21 playoff games the Amqui, QC, native registered 25 points (10-15-25) and 22 penalty minutes.

He finished second on the team in regular season scoring and led the team in playoff scoring.
Hutton, 19, was selected in the fifth round, 147th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6’2”, 192 lbs. D-man split the 2011.12 season with the Kemptville 73s and Nepean Raiders in the CCHL.

The Prescott, ON, native led all Kemptville defencemen in scoring, finishing fourth overall with 27 points (7-20-27) in 35 games and finished third among Nepean defencemen with 16 points (4-12-16) in 22 games played.

He registered a point-per-game in 2012 Fred Page Cup tournament play, registering five points (0-5-5) in five games.

Myron, 19, was selected in the sixth round, 177th overall in the 2012 NHL

Entry Draft. The Victoria, BC, native tallied 42 points (17-25-42) in 26 games played with the BCHL Victoria Grizzlies to lead the team in scoring.

Beattie, 19, was selected in the seventh round, 207th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The Morristown, NJ, native finished the 2011.12 season in the USHS with Phillips Exeter Academy where he led the team in scoring, registering 74 points (39-35-74) in 28 games played.
