Canadians Sweep Spokane

In the final regular season game of the 2014 season, the Canadians scored three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to pull away from the Spokane Indians 4-1 on Monday afternoon.

The victory, Vancouver’s 46th of the summer ties a franchise record for most wins in a season (2012) and also takes the C’s into the post-season on a four-game winning streak.

The Canadians managed to rest of handful of players during the final regular season match-up between both clubs who will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium for Game One of the North Division Final set for 7:05pm.

Vancouver opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning when C Michael De la Cruz led off with a single and later scored on a ground out off the bat of CF Jon Davis.

Spokane’s only run of the day came in the top of the 3rd inning with DH Saquan Johnson scoring on a hard hit single from CF Pepe Cardona.

The Canadians grabbed three runs in the bottom of the 4th which would be the last runs scored on Monday as RHP Ryan Ledbetter watched his infield commit a pair of throwing errors that saw both C Michael De La Cruz and SS Christian Vazquez score.  LF Brenden Kalfus scored minutes later on a single from 3B Ryan Metzler that gave the C’s a 4-1 lead.

Three Canadians pitchers toed the rubber in the win with starter LHP Dan Lietz going four innings allowing the lone Spokane run, while LHP Zak Wasilewski (3.0IP) and RHP Adaric Kelly (2.0IP) would hold the Indians off the score sheet to secure the series sweep.

Notes:  The Canadians rested CF Roemon Fields, SS Franklin Barreto, 2B Tim Locastro, LF Chris Carlson, 1B Ryan McBroom, C Mike Reeves among others in Monday’s finale.

Vancouver finished the second half with a North Division best 21-17 (.553) record and 46-30 (.605) overall mark tying a franchise best record.

spokane indiansWith Vancouver’s sellout crowd on Monday, the final attendance mark for the 2014 regular season was 180,187 over 37 home dates…  The Canadians finished the month of August with a record of 17-11 (.607).

The Vancouver Canadians now host Game One of the 2014 Northwest League Playoffs, presented by Scotiabank, on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 7:05pm with LHP Ryan Borucki (1-1, 1.90) going for the C’s on the mound.

Game Two and potentially Game Three are set for Avista Stadium on Wednesday, September 3rd and September 4th respectively with all games heard live on Team1410 Sports Radio.
