While the ball season is just around the corner, the Vancouver Canadians are in preparation for the coming 2013 season, which by all accounts should be as exciting as the past few.Interesting that while some might question the arrangement with the Toronto Blue Jays, so seem to think the Mariners would be a better fit for the C’s.
Why not promote Canada’s team and help develop it in our back yard, such as the lower mainland or the Province itself. In a press release sent out by good friend Rob Fai he releases the following to the media. “The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club and Toronto Blue Jays agreed to extend their Player Development Contract through 2016.”
The announcement to some came as part of the Canadians 3rd Annual Hot Stove Luncheon presented by Scotiabank at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.
The agreement is the first extension between the two Canadian organizations and ensures that Vancouver will develop the future of the Toronto Blue Jays for at least the next four seasons.
“The Vancouver Canadians have been champions on and off the field during our first two seasons as partners of this great organization,” said Blue Jays Director of Minor League Operations Charlie Wilson.
He continues “We are proud to have Canada’s only minor league baseball club as our partners. Considering our relationship with the Canadians front office to the atmosphere and facilities at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, it was an easy decision to extend our partnership in Vancouver.”Since aligning their organization with the Blue Jays, the Canadians have won back-to-back Northwest League Championships (2011-2012) and will seek a third consecutive title starting June 15th, 2013.
Note:
During the Hot Stove Luncheon in Vancouver on Friday, Minister of Sport, Hon. Bal Gosal surprised Blue Jays infielder Brett Lawrie by presenting him in front of a sold out crowd with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his excellence in Canadian sport.
Lawrie was in attendance along with father Russ, Blue Jays Paul Beeston, Alex Anthopoulos, Charlie Wilson and Brandon Morrow.
