Canada/Mexico Qualifying Match
Canada Soccer has received a full endorsement from Soccer fans in the area and have sole out BC Place in hopes of Canada continuing their road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
With a record crowd on hand it is expected that they will show strong support and help Canada chase group leaders Mexico in Group A of the CONCACAF Semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
At stake is a spot in the hexagonal CONCACAF Final Round, with only two teams from each group advancing to the “Hex” after this six-match series wraps up in September 2016.
This game can be seen locally at 19.00 or 7 Pacific Time as well as Nationally.
This is followed just four days later by an away match in Mexico at the famous Azteca Stadium, with that match to kick off at 19.30 locally in BC.
This match will mark the highest Canada Soccer attendance for a Men’s National Team game in Canada and will set the record for the highest attendance for a National Team event for any sport on home soil in this country.
Previous the record for a Men’s National Team match was in 1994 Men’s International Friendly in Edmonton where 51,936 attended.
The record for a national team event in Canada is 54,027, set last year for Canada’s quarter-final match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
Tosaint Ricketts, Canada’s active leading scorer told the media “It seems like everyone is ready for it and I am so happy to be Canadian at this moment and to get a full house is a dream come true for a Canadian kid.”
It’s been a full week for Canada in the build up for Friday’s International Match, with daily training held at BC Place in preparation for the kickoff.
Canadian fans have also been getting ready for the event, highlighted by a Canada Soccer Fan Rally on the eve of the match.
Here’s hoping for a great match and for the Whitecap’s faithful they are back in 24 hours for a game against Houston.
