Canada Clinches World Cup Berth

Many were saying it couldn’t be accomplished when John Herdman took over as the bench boss for Canada’s National Soccer Team as their newest bench boss, but knowing his coaching style – never say never.

Despite the loss this past week Canada’s National team had two remaining chances to advance to the championship, but playing in front of 30,000 plus fans proved more of a motivation for the squad allowing them to pull off a 4-0 win.

Canada opened the scoring in the 13th minute that saw Cyle Larin give them a 1-0 lead that proved to be the motivation they needed to keep the ball rolling.

Motivation plays a key role in any game and this game was no  exception even without the talented Alphonso Davies who we all knew was there in spirit and mind cheering his beloved squad on.

The win advances Canada’s National Men’s Soccer team made history and advanced for the first time since 1985 making a World Cup Soccer appearance for the first time in 36 years.

Canada opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a goal by Kyle Larin to give them a 1 nil lead that proved to be more of  a motivation for the squad that saw them continue to fast and aggressive against Jamaica with several great scoring chances.

Then in the 44th minute Tajon Buchanan hammered home a brilliant shot at the near post past a stunned Jamaican squad and you could see their spirit starting to drain from a proud nation that saw them down 2 nil at the half.

Canada continued to press the Jamaican “D” on several runs and if not for their defense and goalkeeper they could have added possibly four or five more. 4 or 5. 

Junior Hoilett added another goal late in the game for the Canadians in the 83rd minute slotting home a shot from the top of the penalty area sending it to the far post that saw Canada add the final touch in the 88th minute. 

The last goal was credited as an own goal from the far right flank was directed in by a Jamaican defender Adrian Marippa giving Canada an impressive 4-0 lead clinching the ticket to the World Cup. 

The win for 2022 as the top spot in CONCACAF group having an 8-4-1 record group that has the other two positions has to be decided as to who will make the cut. 

As they healed our Soccer Nation after 36 years of failed qualifying attempts Canada turns the page as we stand on top of the CONCACAF group. 

Canada’s squad is made up of both youth and veterans as we head back as one of the 32 teams in Qatar for 2022. 

Stats in the game were and the timeline for Canada was dominated by the players in the Maple Leaf as the stats showed shots were 18-2 in the match for Canada including 9-1 on the net, possession had the Canadians with 56 percent to 44 for Jamaica. 

Corner kicks in the contest were 9-0 awarded to Canada, fthats saw Canada with 14 compared to 11 for their opposition. 

Saves in the contest saw Jamaica having to make 6 while Canada were limited to 1 in the match as Canada has one more match taking on Panama March 30th prior to the conclusion of this group completion of games. .
