Former Delta resident and veteran defensive tackle of the Edmonton Eskimo’s Adam Braidwood has been released by the team
He was drafted 1st overall in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft, showing that the former Washington State player was Edmonton’s selection for Outstanding Rookie in 2006.
However – a recurring knee injury forced him to sit out the entire 2008 and 2009 seasons, which was something he is not used to.
Adam managed 64 defensive tackles, 12 sacks and one (1) touchdown (vs. Calgary, Sept 8/’06) in 46 career games.
He is still facing charges that stem from two separate incidents last year in both Stony Plain and Edmonton. He was released on bail January 27, 2011.
The club statement is the following. “After a lengthy discussion with Adam this week we have mutually agreed to release him from his contract,” said Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman.
“This move is not being made to pass judgment on the legal process, but rather an acknowledgement that no resolution appears likely until his trial, which doesn’t begin until 2012.
“Adam has indicated that his total focus is on the legal case, which is understandable.
At age 26, he’s still a young man who has a chance to do many positive things with his life. It’s our hope and prayer that he will do so.”
Adam told the media, “I really enjoyed my time with the Eskimos. The Edmonton fans and the organization were very good to me and I will always appreciate that.
I also want to thank Mr. Tillman for all the time and support he has given my parents:.
A class young man with lots of talent, so here’s hoping he get’s his health fixed-up.
