Bourque Get’s Two Games

Rene Bourque won’t be getting a card from the NHL’s disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan this Christmas; instead he’ll be paying for it! For those who missed the hit on Chicago D-man Brent Seabrook was directly from behind and completely uncalled for.

The hit was one where he could have “let-up” and not taken the body as much as he did. For the hit he has been suspended two (2) league games for checking from behind.

Seabrook was hammered head-first into the glass directly from behind and remained face-down on the ice before being helped up, where he managed to skate to his bench on his own.

The incident happened in the first period of Chicago’s 4-2 win over Calgary on Sunday.

In a press release Brendan Shanahan said in his video ruling that “[Bourque] fails to minimize the dangerous play to an acceptable agree. … and it is important to note Bourque has never been fined or suspended,”

Bourque was assessed a major penalty and a game misconduct on the play and the hit will see him forfeit $36,036.04 (US), which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. Bourque misses two home games in Calgary.

The first on Tuesday against Minnesota and the second on Thursday against Detroit. He will return to play in Vancouver December 23rd.
From Montreal:

In related hockey news, the Montreal Canadians have fired Jacques Martin as coach of the Montreal Canadiens this past Saturday. Probably due to the fact Montreal is in last place.
They have replaced him with Assistant Randy Cunneyworth will be the interim head coach for the rest of the season.
Now the fun starts as some in Quebec are upset that he got hired due to the fact he can’t speak any English.
This was even brought up with some Government officials, but the ownership are a proven Coach.
What’s next? I guess we’ll have to wait and see???
