Boundary Bay Airshow Reaches New Heights

The City of  Delta along with Alpha Aviation again hosted the annual Boundary Bay Airshow in front of thousands of spectators who continue to get entertained by the yearly display from aircraft from various areas again drawing thousands for the one day event.

The event is and continues to be free which attracts visitors from the lower mainland that many look forward to each July that introduce today’s generation to the history and the legacy of what and how planes have changed world travel.

The gates opened at 11 that saw a “mad rush” from the public running to secure their seated spot nearest the tarmac or closest to the planes and runway knowing that the show never started until noon.

In addition to the aerial performance put on there was a static display of planes on display on the tramack for the public to wander through getting an up-close tour of the aircraft that had long lines simply waiting.

There was a display of old vintage collector cars near one of the hangers on the right when you walk in and on the left was the display of planes ranging from a Helicopter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s refurbished Airbus A330-200.

This was purchased from Kuwait Airways and is known as Airbus 002 that had the journey west starting in Ottawa heading to Calgary, then Edmonton and eventually Yellowknife.

The reason north was to take additional supplies to the Snowbirds who were putting on a show over the weekend.

Ironic as it was we had the chance to grab an interview with Scott Frost who piloted the aircraft answering any and all questions I asked.

Mind you the questions came easy for me since my Father was in the RCAF with his last posting on the Island in Comox where he eventually retired.

We found it ironic that the conversation eventually circled around sports whereas he introduced his Son Matthew to us who ironically will be playing in the USHL this year after finishing last season with the BCHL Coquitlam Express. What would the chances be and no doubt Ironic right!!!!

Overall the Boundary Bay Airshow was another success with the only drawback being traffic when everyone was leaving that saw a traffic nightmare on Ladner Trunk Road and it never helped having traffic lights working.

Albeit the Delta Police were working with traffic control who were overwhelmed with the number of cars on the road.

If there was one drawback to the event it clearly had to be traffic control and the following day I had someone mention that if there was ever an accident on Ladner Trunk Road it would have backed traffic up beyond the supper hour.

Overall another successful Airshow and we can’t wait until 2025!!!!
