BC’s Fratkin Signs

With the Women’s hockey program in various areas of the globe kicking off, it’s no real surprise that Burnaby’s Kaleigh Fratkin has signed with the Connecticut Whale in the NWHL.

She has been taking lessons from Delta’s Ron Johnson who runs Elite Hockey Shooters based out of Planet Ice or better known as the Great Pacific Forum.

Success follows Ron and all of his students, which include players at the pro level of the game such as former Vancouver Canuck Ryan Kesler, now with the Anaheim Ducks.

She mentioned to the media “I’m excited to have the opportunity to play paid professional hockey and I’m elated to join the Connecticut Whale and play with and against some of the best hockey players in the female game.”

She served as assistant captain of the Terriers during her senior season in 2013-14, where she helped lead BU to a Hockey East conference championship and the NCAA quarterfinal round.

That same year, she was selected as a New England Division I All-Star and Hockey East First-Team All-Star.

Playing defense she finished her NCAA career with 66 points (9 G, 57 A) in 151 games played.women's hockey league logo

When she played in BC she won the 2010 B.C. Provincial Championship with the Vancouver North West Giants being the first woman to play in the BC Major Midget Hockey League.

Fratkin has collected a significant amount of hardware in her time as a member of the Canadian National Women’s Development Team.

She first won silver in 2009 at the U18 Women’s World Championships in Füssen, Germany, collecting an assist in the medal round.

Most recently she won the 2015 Nations Cup Championship, where she scored a goal to help solidify Canada’s 4-1 win over Finland in the tournament opener.

Last season, Fratkin also won a Clarkson Cup with the Boston Blades of the CWHL
