This is the inaugural year of MJ’s True Sport Award, which honours former women’s national team member MJ Boudreault, who passed away last year after a battle with cancer.
The award is given to someone who best displays MJ’s dedication to sport and training, leadership, and competitive drive. “It was pure drive and determination that brought MJ from someone who could not hit the rim of the basket when she first started playing wheelchair basketball to a member of the gold medal winning Women’s National Team at the World Championships in 2006,” said BCWBS Managing Director Carrie Linegar. “
We created this award to celebrate MJ’s life and her contribution to the sport.” BCWBS is committed to creating awareness of disability issues and has provided support to wheelchair basketball programs throughout British Columbia.
