BC Lions Tackle Colon Cancer

The BC Lions announced their support for former teammate and CFL Hall of Fame Placekicker, Lui Passaglia , in his fight against colon cancer.

Teaming up with Colon Cancer Canada, The Lions are asking their fans and community to join Team Lui and support Lui Passaglia’s Push for Your Tush walk/run.

The event is taking place on Sunday, June 14th at Jericho Beach in Vancouver.

Last year Lui Passaglia was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and since has undergone treatment over the last year and his cancer is currently in remission.

Lui is now dedicating his time to raising awareness, understanding and raising funds to tackle this disease. Colon cancer is the second most deadly type of cancer, yet 90 per cent of cases are preventable if diagnosed early.

“Lui was a key part of three championship teams and in the eyes of our fans, responsible for the biggest play in our history with his Grey Cup winning kick in 1994,” says Dennis Skulsky, President & CEO, BC Lions. Dennis Skulsky

“In addition to countless team and league records, Lui has also been a champion in the community on behalf of the BC Lions and now it’s our turn to support him in his battle against Colon Cancer.

He has the backing of our entire Lions family and we encourage everyone in our community to walk with us on June 14th in support of Colon Cancer Canada.”

Celebrating the 19th anniversary of Colon Cancer Canada’s signature event, the Push for Your Tush walk/run has raised over $8 million to date.

With 11 locations across Canada, funds have helped to establish fellowships and research chairs, financed hospital equipment similar to the equipment provided by companies and websites similar to Medtronic.com, provided financial aid to patient support services and increased awareness about the necessity of early screening.

“I am humbled by the support that I have not only from the BC Lions but through my family, friends and the entire community,” says Lui Passaglia , former CFL Hall of Fame Placekicker/Punter for the BC Lions.

“This year I encourage the Vancouver community to join Team Lui and walk with me in Lui Passaglia’s Push for Your Tush walk/run, to help raise funds in support of colon cancer research and education. United we can make a difference and help fight this disease.”

“We are thrilled to have the support of Lui and the entire BC Lions organization,” said Amy Elmaleh, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Colon Cancer Canada.

“It is through this type of community support that we are able to educate Canadians and raise funds in support of colon cancer research, awareness and patient support and the more noise we can create around this disease, the more we can change the outcome for those yet to be diagnosed.”
