Barry Trotz Honourary Co-Chair

The 2014 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup Host Committee is honoured to announce officially that Dauphin native, Barry Trotz, will act as the honourary co-chair of the event.

Trotz is the longest tenured coach in the NHL and (until recently) the only coach in Nashville Predators franchise history.

He who began his coaching career in 1984 as an assistant with the University of Manitoba and served two seasons (1985-87) as the head coach and general manager of the Dauphin Kings.

Trotz has also gained experience coaching on the international stage, serving as an assistant coach for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championships on four occasions, and was named 2007 Coach of the Year by The Sporting News.

Always community minded, Trotz and his family are active in a variety of service and charitable initiatives. This commitment was recognized when Trotz was honored with the Community Spirit Award at the 2005 O’Charley’s Dinner of Champions, presented by the Nashville Sports Council.

“That is what junior hockey in western Canada is all about. It is about dreams and it is about serving as the lifeblood of our communities,” stated Trotz. “This tournament is a fantastic opportunity for all participants to showcase their talents at the highest level of junior hockey. It is also an opportunity for our community and all those that help make junior hockey happen to shine.”

“The theme-Come for the Hockey, Stay for the Party-is so appropriate for my hometown. We love our hockey here but we also love to share good times through healthy competition with both new and old friends. I hope everyone leaves this tournament having made new friends and enjoying the friendship and hospitality that our committee, many of whom are lifelong friends of mine, will offer.”
