Atwal’s Moved On
Following the trade of Arvin Atwal to Lethbridge, the Giants received in return a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2017 bantam draft in return.
At that time it left the team with three 20 year olds who were Jackson Houck (RW), Carter Popoff (C) and left winger Taylor Crunk,
Crunk was picked up off waivers from the Victoria Royals and it’s interesting to note that teams can only use three overage players.
At the end of last season Atwal was requested by Coach Claude Noel to stay away from the team for several days in part all due to discipline issues.
Atwal showed signs of grit and toughness in attrition to some puck-moving ability while with the Giants, but all that was soon short lived.
During mid-week the Giants made it official and announce that they had traded Atwal to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a conditional sixth round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
As per normal for all teams Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner “We’d like to thank Arvin for his time spent with the Giants.”
“With four 19-year-old defenseman returning to our team, we had to make some room on the blue line, and we wish Arvin all the best in the future.”
Atwal played his minor hockey for North Delta and was initially drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders, but the Giants acquired him in October of 2011.
The 19-year-old blue liner who is entering his overage season has suited up in 154 games for the Giants over parts of four seasons, netting 14 goals and 44 assists to go along with 218 penalty minutes.
He enjoys his time with his new club and enjoys returning spending time with his Family and Friends.
We wish him all the best.
