With the new year nearly upon us, some Associations and/or groups are setting in place their agenda for the upcoming new year events.

One such event is the BC Special Olympic Games which are being hosted by the City of Kamloops and the count down is just over 6 months away.

The excitement is just starting for not only the athlete’s but also the Coaches, Volunteers and the organizing committee, who incidentally still looking for volunteers for the event.

This is one event that is not just worthwhile but warms the heart for anyone willing to help out with future Special Olympic Athletes who are looking at setting their sights on hitting the world stage.

Being hosted in the City known as Canada’s Tournament Capital, the event will have the opening ceremonies taking part at the Sandman Centre, which will also feature  Powerlifting and Rhythmic Gymnastics.

School District #73 will host the Basketball and the Tournament Capital Centre Hillside Stadium will host the Athletics.

Spectators will be welcome to attend all SOBC Games competitions on July 7 and 8 and the Opening Ceremony on July 6 and best of all the entrance is FREE!!

The 2017 SOBC Summer Games runs from July 6-8 and is the largest SOBC Games to date, with almost 1,300 athletes with intellectual disabilities from all parts of the province and the Yukon.

Along with the Athletes they are supported by over 350 volunteer coaches and mission staff to help assist the various sporting athletes attending the games.

The 2017 Games will feature exciting competition and inspiring displays of sportsmanship in the 11 SOBC summer sports: 5- and 10-pin bowling, athletics, basketball, bocce, golf, powerlifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball, and swimming.

 The games closing ceremony will be held on July 8 (open only to Games participants) and volunteer recognition breakfast on July 9.
