The Adanacs broke open a close game Sunday night against the Six Nation Arrows in game two of the Minto Cup to take a 2-0 series lead in the 2014 National Junior A lacrosse finals.
Grabbing a 11-6 win, the format see’s both teams enjoy a day off before resuming play again Tuesday evening the Langley Event Centre, with the face-off set for 8:00pm.
Coquitlam were in full control as they opened up a 3-1 lead after the opening period with Eli McLaughlin scoring two minutes in, followed by James Rahe with a pair extending the lead to 3-0 by the 13:02 of the first.
Six nations finally got on the scoreboard on a goal by Joeseph Haodais Maracle beating Peter Dubenski late in the period cutting the lead to a couple of goals with shots after one were 23-8 for Coquitlam.
The second continued to stay close but Coquitlam continued to frustrate the Arrows breaking out to a 5-1 lead with goals (a pair) by Tyler Pace before Quinn Powless cut the lead to 5-2.
McLaughlin restored the four goal lead 6-2 with a goal with just under three minutes remaining before Josh Johnson of the Arrows cut the Coquitlam lead to 6-3 prior to the intermission.
The Arrows made game of it early in the third narrowing the lead to 6-5 getting goals from Quinn Powless and Joseph Maracle a short four minutes in.
The Adanacs scored four straight (including a pair on the PP) seeing James Rahe (third of the night) making it 7-5.
This was followed a short minute later with Brett Hawrys, Jordan Gilles and Brett Hawrys (second of the game) extending the lead to 10-5.
Six Nations “keeper” Doug Jamieson faced 56 shots and when all was said and done he finished making 45 saves.
Six Nations Shane Simpson scored with under four minutes left but Coquitlam put the game away with Messenger hitting the empty Arrows net giving them a 11-6 win.
Shots in the game were 56-38 for Coquitlam as Peter Dubinsky finished stopping 32 shots.
