Living in the lower mainland we see lots of changes with professional sport and realistically speaking, some are good and some are questionable?

The BC Lions are always a fan favorite in BC and given that the training facility is located in Surrey BC, it’s no wonder why and just maybe it’s due to the population in the area.

Questions arise each season as to who the team will use as their number QB and if it will be Jonathon Jennings or will Wally end up going with the mainstay Travis Lulay.

Jennings has had his up and downs this season and that’s not to say he a bad QB, but the one consistent has been Travis, regardless if he plays or not.

Friday saw the Lions get dealt a shock, first by snapping a three game losing streak only to be followed by an injury to Lulay.

Early diagnosis is that it might be a torn anterior cruciate ligament to his right knee and naturally they are hoping it’s not serious for the QB, but it might just be.

Entering the game Jennings never thought he would be in the game, but he was thrown into duty and came out playing masterful throwing for 295 yards and  two (2) TD’s.

The Lions pulled off a 41-18 win over the visiting Montreal Alouettes in front of a fair size crowd at BC Place and were coming off a bye week which they drew up plays and rested key players.

The win gave “life” to the struggling BC Lions and gives them a ray of hope for postseason play to quiet the somewhat skeptics in the building in Vancouver.

The win sees the Lions move ahead albeit temporarily over the 5 and 5 Roughriders who sport a winning percentage of .500, while the Lions record is 6-5 for a winning % of .545.

Following the win on Friday evening bench boss Wally Buono was inundated with question after question regarding the status of his QB.

He mentioned that “the injury for us is a devastating loss not only for us, but also the fans and an injury of this sort is very serious and once the doctors do the MRI we’ll know.”

As one would expect he (Wally) was asked about the play of Jennings and mentioned “He was prepared, he was ready and that’s all you can ask of a young man — I can’t imagine the last month or so has been pleasant for him, (but) he didn’t let that phase him.”

While Lulay is out for a while, it’s important for everyone to understand that he will contribute in a mentorship role for the club.

As Wally stated “Professional Sports Can Be Cruel”!!

The Lions next game is in Calgary September 16th followed by a home contest Friday September 22nd against Hamilton Tiger-Cats for an 8 pm kick-off.
