1st Annual Great Northwest Showcase

The

Simon Fraser Men’s Hockey organization is pleased to announce the first annual Great Northwest Showcase.
SFU Men’s Hockey is proud to host the inaugural event in Burnaby, British Columbia, during the Christmas break.
The event will feature four games over two days at Bill Copeland Sports Centre, showcasing the talent of local university hockey athletes against two elite teams from very well-known American institutions in the sporting world.
The event format is designed to allow maximum exposure of the visiting teams while showing the level of skill that the SFU and UBC teams possess.
Those involved with the event hope to gauge the interest from the local community for university hockey. “This has the potential to be a great hockey and educational event in our own back yard, showcasing what college hockey is all about,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “Having schools like Arizona State and the Sooners on board is an incredible opportunity, our players and staff are all very excited to see how we stack up.”

Location: Bill Copeland Arena, 3676 Kensington Ave, Burnaby BC

Date: December 28th – 29th, 2012
Time: 4:00pm and 7:15pm games, with SFU playing both 7:15 games.
Full schedule available online
Teams Participating: SFU, UBC, ASU and OU
In addition to the evening games during the Great Northwest Showcase, plenty more hockey will be played, as the 50th Annual Burnaby Minor Hockey Bantam AAA Tournament will run in conjunction with the Showcase.  The bantam tournament runs from Dec 27th-31st.
Visitors to the Great Northwest Showcase will have the chance to listen to seminars from The Coaches Site, play with interactive kiosks and get up close and personal with student-athletes during autograph sessions.
