Lions Making News!

We received the following news from Matt Baker of the BC Lions and are excited to share the following news as they make their push to the Grey Cup.

If you never got your fill from the Gravy Bowl game at BC Place in a contest that saw the Lions “chomp down” on the Stampeders pulling out an impressive win, now they continue their drive for the coveted Grey Cup.

Locally the pro teams in the lower mainland work to continue attracting their fan base the BC Lions announced the signing of American DB Tyler Coyle (6’1, 215ibs) to the practice roster.

He brings his talent north of the 49th following training camps with Green Bay and the Browns at the start of the 2024 NFL season.

He signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted FA in 2021 playing in three games over two seasons collecting eight (8) tackles while playing a role on both the “D” and Special Team units.

He played in 35 games at UConn (2017-19) grabbing 260 total tackles (161 solo, 99 assisted), 18 pass breakups, three interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, two forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries then moved on to Purdue for his senior season recording 13 defensive tackles in three contests.

Nathan Rourke Collects Top Offensive Grade – Week 18 Honour Roll

Nathan Rourke and the offence may not have found the end zone in last Friday’s gritty win over Calgary, yet that didn’t prevent the starting quarterback from earning recognition as the CFL unveiled its week 18 Honour Roll selections powered by Pro Football Focus (PFF).

Rourke emerged as the top-graded offensive player for his efforts as the BC Lions officially punched their playoff tickets with the victory and losses by Hamilton and Edmonton to close out the week.

Rourke (89.7 PFF Grade)- completed a season-best 83.3 per cent of his passes (20/24) and threw for 218 yards while adding three carries for 23 yards in the 32-15 victory.

Rourke’s longest completion of the night was also a season-high as he connected on a 50-yard dart to Keon Hatcher Sr., setting them up for a Sean Whyte field goal that put the home side ahead 12-8 early in the fourth quarter. Rourke finished the contest with a 109.4 passer efficiency rating.

The 8-8 Lions return to practice on Tuesday ahead of a critical showdown with the 8-7-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium.

A win for the Leos would move them to within one point of locking up second in the West and home-field advantage for the Western Semi-Final on Saturday, November 2.

As first announced during the fourth quarter of Friday night’s victory over Calgary, the BC Lions have opened upper bowl seating for our Saturday, October 19 tilt with the Montreal Alouettes.

The Futures Stars game is presented by London Drugs with kickoff at 4:00 pm.

“The push to the playoffs is heating up and as a result, our October 19th game has been selling very well for a few weeks,” said Lions’ president Duane Vienneau.

“We’re excited to welcome in another big crowd as we continue our push to host a game in November.”

The stakes are super high for the 8-8 Lions ahead of Saturday’s visit to the 8-7-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders.

A win for the Leos would keep us firmly in control of finishing second in the West and homefield advantage for the Division Semi-Final on Saturday, November 2.

The October 19 regular season finale also features our annual salute to amateur football as we welcome young players and Junior Uproar cheerleaders from all over the province.

The fun begins with our Backyard Party at 1:00 pm on Terry Fox Plaza with live entertainment, activities for fans of all ages including a football toss, face painters and spray tattoo artist plus food and beverage options which include Molson Coors products for only $5 (19 and over).
