The game opened up with both teams playing an exciting, fast paced game that saw Spokane took away time and space from the Giants giving them less time to connect with their breakout passes.
Both “tenders” played exceptional that saw both Giants David Tendeck and Chiefs Bailey Brkin suit up for their second consecutive game entertaining those in attendance at every opportunity.
The Chiefs opened the scoring on a late PP marker that saw Noah King seeing eye shot eluded a screened David Tendeck with 18 seconds remaining in the first giving them a 1-0 lead heading to the intermission.
The Chiefs started where they left off surprising the Giants a short 19 seconds in the second that saw Jaret Anderson-Dolan surprised Tendeck with a high shot on the short side which that tucked under his arm bulging the twine giving the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.
The remainder of the second continued being fast, hard checking and aggressive that saw the period ending with the Giants holding a slight edge in shots (16-12) that saw the Chiefs maintain a two goal lead.
The third saw the Giants trailing by a slim 2-0 margin in game two of the Western Conference series, but to the surprise of the 4,700 plus on hand they managed to rally with four goals in a span of 3:21 seconds.
Spokane were looking at rebounding following the game one loss (4-1) margin, albeit the fourth was an empty net marker giving the Giants the start they were looking for.
The third started with Dawson Holt getting a bounce off the back boards, which was similar to the bounce in game one, but this one was 200 feet away.
This shot beat a shocked Bailey Brkin at 5:15 that saw the Giants get within one as Spokane were still up by a slim 2-1 margin.
It was like watching the Fast and Furious as the onslaught continued a 1:56 seconds later as Jared Dmytriw scored his first of two to even the game at two.
As if the tying goal wasn’t enough to frustrate the Chiefs, it was a short 22 seconds later saw the Giants score what proved to the game winner with Dmytriw collecting his second of the game.
The broadcast crew of Dan and Bill were shocked to see the Giants rebound from the 2-0 drubbing after two in hopes of keeping the momentum going forward in Spokane.
To the amazement of everyone comeback was complete as Yannik Valenti collected his first of the playoffs 1:03 later giving the G-men a 4-2 lead.
The rest of the game saw the Giants continue to pressure the Chiefs and quite possibly could have added to the lead, if not for outstanding play of Spokane’s Brkin.
The Giants hammered Brkin with 20 shots in the final period allowing only 4 against Tendeck, to the delight of everyone.
Even in conversation with “Punch’ he mentioned that that had to be the best period all season for the Giants, which say’s it all.
The Giants completed the comeback win taking a 2-0 series lead in the conference finals in the best of seven series that saw the Giants outshoot the Chiefs by a final shots 44-26 tally.
David Tendeck stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced, while Bailey Brkin finished with 40 saves on the 44 shots he faced for the Chiefs.
