Weekend games can be grueling, but for the Eagles they have managed to pull out two consecutive wins, first over Salmon Arm by a 4-3 O/T victory only to be followed by a 4-2 win over the Express the following night.

Halloween Sunday as it’s known in the “Nest” sees them play host to the Prince George Spruce Kings (8-6-2-3) who are currently sitting in second place in the Mainland Division, while the Eagles are tied for third with the Chiefs with a record of 8-8-1-1 through 18 games.

The win over the Express not only gives them confidence, but shows everyone that they are indeed contenders and not to be taken lightly.

In hopes of keeping the streak alive send Tallarico between the pipes who has allowed 17 goals through 17 games with both Salmon Arm and Surrey, while the Spruce Kings send DeBrouwer  with a record of 5-6-0-3 allowing 40 goals  through 14 games’ while keeping a positive attitude, which is easier said than done.

It’s easy to say that entering the game both teams played extremely tentative but a reserved style of hockey with PG outshooting the Eagles by a narrow margin of 10-9 after one.

With the first wrapping up with 48 seconds remaining Chapman jumped on for a line change only to be met at the center line by Robert who delivered a howitzer of a hit clearly sending a message that the Eagle’s weren’t going to be pushed around.

Continuing the jump at the start of the 2nd saw Robert deliver a saucer pass to White at the dot allowing Stewart to slip of the wall getting behind the “D” enabling him to dangle around Cooper putting it in the bottom left corner for the early l-0 lead.

Knowing the explosive style of play by PG it was only a matter of time for them to get on the board, first from Johnson at 7:48 tying the game at one, only to be followed by a second go-ahead goal from PG’s De Jong at 11:13 managing to take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after two while also leading in the shot department 22-16.

As the third started it was no surprise that the Eagles came out with a “jump” and after Westgard took a pass on the right side he made a no-look back pass to Burgart who broke in on the left side from his own blue line driving to the net slipping it past Cooper a short 43 seconds in managing to tie the game at two.

The Spruce Kings pressed time and time again only to be denied by not only the stingy “D” of the Eagles, but also the solid play of Tallarico allowing the Eagles to take advantage of poor back-checking.

Coming off an early injury in the first Connor Sundquist broke in on the left side only to be hauled down with the referee indicating a delayed minor was to be called sending Tallarico to the bench.

While Tallarico was on his way to the bench Brushett jumped left stranded by Sundquist and sent a nifty tape to tape pass to Masellis who hammered it from the ringette line while Manz was sliding in from of Cooper to block the shot, only to screen the initial shot putting the Eagles up 3-2 at 7:23.

Immediately following this goal the Eagles won the draw and sent it forward to the right side blue line with Wesley gaining the loose puck managing to drag it along the blue line then made a quick no-look pass to Cody Schiavon who came in on the right side sending the puck at the net.

Probably in hopes of a rebound, but to the shock of PG it was first stopped by Cooper, but eventually squeaked through his “five-hole” after the initial stop off the chest pad then following to the ice sliding under Cooper giving the Eagles a 4-2 lead a short 16 seconds later.

Say what you will and all 689 on hand on “Halloween Sunday” could sense the Eagles third consecutive victory.

A weekend to remember with the Eagles gaining not only respect from the other BCHL clubs, but also gaining fan support knowing that everything is within reach.

While the previous game was “chippy” at times this was extremely entertaining with only one minor being assessed to the Spruce Kings in the middle frame.
